The irrigation minister said the government was giving utmost priority to the Singur Dam and would not compromise on its protection and rehabilitation. The dam supplies drinking water to Hyderabad and supports irrigation in surrounding districts and is described by officials as a vital infrastructure asset. The minister set an urgent agenda for safety and maintenance to safeguard water security for urban and rural users.

The minister received a briefing at a high level meeting at the Telangana Secretariat on the safety features of several dams across the state, and officials informed him that the National Dam Safety Authority had flagged concerns regarding the Singur project. In response, state authorities initiated follow up measures and prepared technical plans to assess structural integrity. The minister directed immediate technical interventions, including underwater inspections and accelerated repair work, to mitigate identified risks.

He instructed that contractors be directed to complete repair works within a single season to prevent disruptions to agriculture and ordered tighter supervision of remedial activities. The minister also asked for coordination among engineering teams, reservoir managers and central regulators to ensure inspections and repairs proceeded without delay. Plans were requested for enhanced monitoring and contingency arrangements to protect water supply during the works.

The minister further announced that a long pending housing project for the poor in Huzurnagar would be inaugurated on March 14 by the chief minister at Ramaswamy Gutta. The scheme, spread over 110 acres, will provide 2,160 single room houses fitted with basic infrastructure and aims to address longstanding housing needs in the area. Officials were asked to ensure that the housing inauguration did not affect dam repair schedules and that resources were managed to support both priorities. The government indicated that protection of core water infrastructure remained paramount while progressing social welfare projects.
