Kirloskar Pneumatic Launches Tonalli Sustainable Waste To Energy Solution
Tonalli converts food waste into valuable by-products through a compact plug-and-play system that promotes 100 per cent waste utilisation and is aimed at industrial canteens, hospitality establishments and residential communities. The solution is aligned with India’s Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, effective from first April 2026, which promote four-stream segregation and decentralised processing. KPCL said Tonalli was developed to address compliance-driven and sustainability-focused waste management needs.
The system uses a controlled anaerobic digestion process to convert organic material into biogas under regulated environmental conditions and includes an inbuilt biogas-based agitation mechanism that removes the need for mechanical agitators. Biogas output undergoes multi-stage cleaning with moisture removal and H2S scrubbing before utilisation and is delivered at elevated pressure by an indigenous high-performance Kirloskar compressor to ensure a consistent flame at the burner. Industrial safety features are governed by PLC-based logic with automatic flaring, vacuum protection and layered pressure relief to protect facilities.
KPCL noted that the BioBit Technology embedded in Tonalli is intended to deliver measurable environmental benefits equivalent to planting thousands of trees, substituting LPG use and generating carbon credits. The company presented Tonalli at a launch attended by representatives from NobleExchange Environment Solutions and industry veterans from the Hadapsar Industrial Estate, signalling a collaborative approach to decentralised waste processing. The introduction expands KPCL’s portfolio of engineered solutions aimed at responsible resource utilisation and operational efficiency while creating value from everyday organic waste.
