The initiative is being positioned as part of broader efforts to enhance coastal connectivity and public access to maritime infrastructure. Officials indicated that expedited timelines are being considered to deliver operational benefits to commuters and to strengthen emergency response capabilities along the city coastline.

The process to appoint a Project Management Consultant (PMC) for technical approvals and environmental clearances is nearing completion, and officials said procurement steps are underway to engage the consultant. The appointment will be intended to fast-track design reviews, statutory approvals and contractor selection. Expressions of interest have been invited for the construction of a helipad at the site, with the tendering process described as part of an integrated approach to improve multimodal connectivity and emergency air access.

The announcement followed a meeting at the Mantralaya attended by the minister, the Mumbai municipal commissioner and the Maharashtra Maritime Board chief executive officer, along with officials from the departments concerned. Participants reviewed technical, environmental and operational aspects and discussed coordination between local administration and maritime authorities. Officials outlined timelines for approvals and stressed the importance of inter-agency cooperation to ensure timely delivery and compliance with regulatory requirements.

State planners expect the jetty and helipad to enhance commuter options across the bay corridor, reduce travel times and provide a supplementary route for emergency medical evacuations. Authorities also forecast potential gains for coastal tourism and recreational services through improved docking and passenger amenities. Work will proceed alongside environmental assessments and community consultations to address local concerns, and officials indicated that subsequent operational trials and phased commissioning are being planned to bring the infrastructure into public use.
