Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal inspected the Bhalswa Dumpsite in Delhi to review the progress of legacy waste remediation being undertaken by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. The visit was carried out with the MCD Commissioner and senior officials from the Department of Urban Development under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. The minister reaffirmed the Centre's focus on accelerating the scientific clearance of accumulated waste urgently.

MCD officials informed the minister that nine point nine zero seven million tonnes (9.907 mn t) of legacy waste had been remediated at the Bhalswa Dumpsite as of 31 July 2026. The remaining mound of legacy waste was reported as expected to be cleared by 15 October 2026. Waste accumulated at the site up to March 2026 was targeted for clearance by 31 December 2026.

The minister emphasised the need to maintain the pace of remediation and directed the MCD to expedite newly awarded work for processing fresh waste reaching the sanitary landfill. He said that faster processing of incoming waste would help accelerate the remediation of the dumpsite while ensuring scientific management of fresh waste without delay. Officials were instructed to align operational schedules and monitoring systems to sustain progress.

The visit underscored the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs' continued emphasis on the time bound clearance of legacy waste and the comprehensive remediation of the Bhalswa Dumpsite. The programme forms part of broader efforts to improve urban waste management and to mitigate environmental and public health risks associated with unmanaged landfill sites. Authorities said sustained execution and timely completion of the identified milestones remained a priority.
