Despite the deadline having passed more than two months ago, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (MC) has failed to ensure that its designated operator begins the project for the collection, transportation, and recycling of construction and demolition (C&D) waste.

The civic authority has not removed C&D waste for the past 42 months, causing material to accumulate on busy highways, vacant lots, and in residential areas.

Radhakrishnan B, the municipal commissioner, released guidelines for managing C&D trash, finalising the penalties for offenders. Additionally, the civic chief established fees for transportation and recycling that bulk trash producers must pay to NMC operator M/s Hyderabad C&D trash Pvt Ltd.

According to NMC data, the city produces about 200 metric tonnes (MT) of C&D trash per day. Previously, the municipal body would transport this waste using Kanak Resources Management Limited, a garbage company. The two garbage operators, BVG India and AG Enviro Infra Projects Private Ltd, were hired on November 16, 2019, in accordance with new bye-laws and regulations, however they were prohibited from lifting and carrying C&D waste for several reasons.
