Navi Mumbai Restores Water Supply After Key Pipeline Repair

Navi Mumbai’s vital water supply has been fully restored following the successful completion of critical repairs on the 1,700 mm diameter Morbe main water pipeline, providing significant relief to thousands of residents. This essential maintenance, conducted near the Akshar Building along Palm Beach Road, resolves long-standing leakage issues and marks a proactive effort by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) to ensure a robust and sustainable water distribution network.
The planned 18-hour water supply disruption began on the morning of 18 July and concluded in the early hours of 19 July. It was necessary to connect a newly installed parallel pipeline to the existing Morbe line. This strategic upgrade was initiated after frequent leakages in this section caused considerable water loss and intermittent disruptions across several zones. By replacing and linking sections prone to leakage, the NMMC aims to minimise future wastage, conserve precious water resources, and reduce the environmental impact associated with water loss.
Affected areas under the NMMC’s jurisdiction included Belapur, Nerul, Vashi, Turbhe, Sanpada, Koparkhairane, Ghansoli, and Airoli. Additionally, zones managed by CIDCO such as Kharghar and Kamothe, directly connected to the main pipeline, experienced temporary shutdowns. While planned disruptions inevitably cause inconvenience, the civic body’s clear communication—including updates on social media—helped residents prepare, reducing the impact on daily life.
