Patna Municipal Corporation has allocated Rs 22.7 million (mn) to strengthen maintenance of the city water supply system. The funds are intended to address wear and tear across distribution networks and to support routine upkeep. The civic administration described the move as part of ongoing efforts to secure reliable water services for residents. The move follows routine assessments of network condition undertaken by municipal engineers.

The allocation will be used for repair and replacement of ageing pipelines, maintenance of pumping stations and upkeep of storage reservoirs and treatment infrastructure. Officials indicated that routine inspections and preventive maintenance activities will be prioritised to reduce service disruptions. The measure is designed to extend asset life and to improve operational efficiency. Priority will be given to areas with frequent complaints and visible leakages.

The civic body approved the spending from its capital maintenance provisions and said work will proceed through established procurement processes. Tendering and contract management steps are expected to follow applicable rules to ensure transparency and value for money. Technical teams will assess priority areas based on network condition and service complaints. An oversight mechanism will track implementation and expenditures against planned activities.

Residents are expected to see reduced incidence of unscheduled outages and fewer interruptions during peak demand periods as maintenance work progresses.
