PMC Approves Rs 68.3 mn Contract To Process 300 t Dry Waste Daily

The Pune Municipal Corporation standing committee approved a Rs 68.3 mn proposal to collect, transport and scientifically process the city’s dry waste, enabling the daily handling of at least 300 metric tonnes (t) of non-biodegradable material. The contract was awarded to Bhumi Green Energy Envirocare LLP, which emerged as the sole eligible bidder after two rounds of tendering. The standing committee said the award will ensure uninterrupted service for dry waste management across the city.

Under the contract the agency will collect dry waste from PMC ramps, transfer stations and other designated locations and transport it to cement plants for processing. The material will be converted into refuse-derived fuel (RDF) or treated through other approved scientific methods. The firm will perform the work at a rate of Rs 844 per t and manage on-site handling and transfer logistics.

The contract period is valid for six months with a provision to extend it by another three months if required, and during this term the agency is expected to transport and process 81,000 t of dry waste. PMC had granted administrative approval for the project on June nine and initiated the tender process after the first tender received only one bid. A fresh invitation also yielded a single technically qualified bidder and the commercial bid was opened on June 25, with the Tender Committee approving the quoted rate on June 29.

The project is estimated to cost Rs 68.3 mn excluding GST and the expenditure will be met from the Solid Waste Management Department budget head earmarked for tipping fees at Sus, Mahalunge, Bavdhan, Kondhave Dhawade, cement plants and the Excel facility at Katraj. PMC has made a budgetary provision of Rs 85 mn for 2026-27 and officials indicated additional funds will be allocated if required. The standing committee chairman Shrinath Bhimale said the proposal was approved to strengthen Pune’s solid waste management system and ensure timely disposal of non-biodegradable waste.
