Pune?s Hinjewadi hub to get waste management depot; MIDC

Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has approved the establishment of a dedicated waste management depot at Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park in Hinjewadi, with recent work orders issued for the project.

According to a senior MIDC official, the depot will be located within the IT hub and is designed to handle approximately 10 tonnes of waste generated daily. The IT Park, home to over 150 companies including numerous MNCs, employs over four lakh individuals.

"The site for the depot has been identified in phase III, and a request for land allocation has been submitted to MIDC headquarters. Construction will commence following land allocation, with an estimated completion period of one year," the official informed the source.

The issue of illegal garbage dumping within the IT park vicinity by local villagers has been a recurring concern raised by industries. MIDC officials and members of the Hinjewadi Industries Association (HIA) have engaged in multiple discussions with district authorities over recent years, though a resolution to the problem has yet to be achieved.

While the IT Park falls under Hinjewadi gram panchayat jurisdiction, MIDC assumes responsibility for infrastructure management. Currently, MIDC has contracted three private agencies for waste collection within the IT park area, with subsequent waste processing managed by the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC).
