Round The Clock Squad Formed To Prevent Airport Garbage Dumping

Thiruvananthapuram city corporation has formed a round-the-clock squad to prevent garbage dumping within a four-kilometre radius of the Thiruvananthapuram airport, the corporation told the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC). The move was made in compliance with directions issued by SHRC chairperson Justice Alexander Thomas after a complaint about an aircraft engine being damaged when a hawk struck an Oman Air plane near the airport on April 15 last year. Civic officers said the measure is intended to improve safety and reduce wildlife hazards around the airfield.
