Thane Housing Societies to Recycle Organic Waste Onsite
27 Oct 2025 CW Team
The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has directed all housing societies generating over 100 kg of organic waste daily to set up onsite recycling systems. The initiative aims to promote decentralised waste management and reduce pressure on the city’s landfills.
Societies have been asked to install composting or biogas units within their premises to process wet waste locally. The civic body has also warned that non-compliance could attract penalties.
Officials stated that this initiative aligns with TMC’s broader sustainability and cleanliness goals under the Swachh Bharat Mission. By encouraging local processing, the corporation aims to improve efficiency in waste handling and reduce the city’s carbon footprint.
