Karnataka industries minister Murugesh R Nirani told the media that the Karnataka government is planning to launch a unique concept of ‘Walk-to-work’ across the state in an attempt to avoid long traffic chaos and save time that is wasted in waiting at traffic junctions.

Nirani told the media that the department of industries decided to make a blueprint on residential townships in industrial areas that would arrive in future across the state after reviewing his department.

Nirani said that the industries department plans to develop 9,010 acres of land for industrial development in the upcoming days in Ramanagara, Tumakuru, Kolar, Vijayapura, Mandya and Haveri districts. More than 81,864 acres of land in 188 industrial areas have been obtained so far and allotted for industrial units across the state.

He said that the planned residential townships would come up on Karnataka Industry Area Development Board (KIADB) land and other industrial areas.

He also explained that the main aim of this project is to help officials, workers and other staff residing on the premises which will help them avoid travelling long distances for work and increase productivity, prevent traffic congestion and save crucial man-hours.

Additionally, he said that the residential townships would be built on 10% to 15% of the land reserved in industrial areas with all basic amenities such as clinics, parks, recreational facilities, shopping malls and schools.

Nirani also told the media that they would make sure of further progress with investor-friendly and business-friendly steps in the upcoming days and that he would also hold a meeting with top industrialists soon and discuss issues related to the development of industries and attracting investments.

He said that the government would make every possible effort in maintaining the lead position of Karnataka in the industrial sector and investor-friendly atmosphere.
