A state-run container terminal at Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), India’s busiest container port, has reportedly been hit by a cyber attack.
A suspected security breaking of the management information system has caused the Jawaharlal Nehru Container Terminal (JNPCT), the country’s first dedicated container terminal, spurring it to reroute one ship to the other terminals. Jawaharlal Nehru Port manages approximately 50% of the total containerised cargo volume across the significant ports of India. In addition to JNPCT, the port has four privately-run terminals, which Splash understands have not been impacted; two are run by DP World and the remaining two are run by APM Terminals (Gateway Terminals India) and PSA International, respectively. Seattle-based logistics and freight forwarding major Expeditors International was impacted by a ransomware attack over the weekend that forced the organisation to close most of its operations worldwide.
