TN govt forms new development authority for Hosur city

01 Jan 2022

The Tamil Nadu government has created an urban development authority, akin to the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA), to expedite the speed of advancement of Hosur city.

The government had planned to include urban development officials for Tirupur, Madurai, Coimbatore and Hosur in the 2021-22 budget. While government orders for including the official for the other cities were released in November and December, it was declared for Hosur on Thursday.

Hosur city is extended across 190.20 sq km on the banks of the Ponnaiyar river. It observed fast development in the recent decades, thanks to big firms like Titan, Ashok Leyland, Caterpillar, TVS Motors, and Sundaram Fasteners that installed shops there. But due to the population explosion, the city observed haphazard growth in health, education, drainage, roads and drinking water distribution, causing inconvenience to the citizens.

To direct the urban development authority, a 14-member team has been developed with the principal secretary of the housing and urban development department as chairman and Hosur collector as vice-chairman. The official will draft blueprints for development and coordinate with government-recognised schemes and projects.
