For Kanpur Metro's 8.6 kilometre Line-2, which will connect Rawatpur and Jaurali via 8 stations, 9 businesses—three of them in a consortium—have submitted bids.
Through three underground stations at Rawatpur, Kakadeo, and Double Pullia, the Kanpur Metro Phase 1 underground package, known as KNPCC-11, will link Agriculture Depot to Double Pullia Ramp.
In February 2023, the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) issued a request for proposals (RFP) for this contract, which had a Rs. 1025 crore budget and a 30-month timeframe.

The cost of the Kanpur Metro project Phase 1 is estimated at around Rs 11,000 crore. Kanpur Metro Phase 1's DPR (Detailed Project Report) with 32.5 km of routes was prepared by Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES), approved by the State cabinet in March 2016 and by the Central Government's Cabinet in February 2019. The project is being financed through equity from the Government of India and the Government of Uttar Pradesh on an equal footing and through a EUR 650 million loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB) approved on July 15, 2020.
Similar to the other 2 subterranean sections of Phase 1, UPMRC will probably call for the contractor for KNPCC-11 to use at least 2 tunnel boring machines (TBMs) to build 6 tunnels.
This is the first of the city's Line-2's two civil packages. The building of an elevated bridge with 5 stations will be part of the other package from Double Pullia Ramp to Jaurali.
After Package KNPCC-05 (given to Gulermak-SAM JV) and KNPCC-06 (granted to Afcons-SAM JV), both on 23.785 km Line-1 (IIT - Naubasta), this is the third underground stretch of the 32.38 km Kanpur Metro Phase 1 overall.
About the project:
Kanpur Metro rail was designed in 2016, with construction beginning in 2019. This public transportation service has been planned for the entire city and will be managed by the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (UPMRCL). The active metro corridor currently extends 8.7 kilometers from Moti Jheel to IIT Kanpur. The Kanpur Metro route is being planned in stages. The first phase involves the development of an 8.7 km-long portion of the Orange Line, which is now operating, while the second phase includes the development of the remaining route as well as the Blue Line.
