Bengaluru: Metro construction raises concerns over tremors
01 Aug 2023
Residents around the Doddanekundi railway over-bridge express concerns over tremors caused by ongoing metro construction. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) faces scrutiny as residents question property safeguards during construction.
Suresh Menon, a local resident, reveals that his apartment, located close to the construction site, experiences strong tremors. He emphasizes accountability for any potential property damage and highlights communication challenges while registering complaints via BMRCL's helpline.
The construction pertains to the Blue Line or ORR-Airport Metro Line, connecting the Central Silk Board to Kempegowda International Airport. While some apartments are farther from the site, they too report concerns.
Urbanist Ashwin Mahesh suggests structural integrity testing for properties near construction zones. He insists on third-party audits to ensure no damage occurs.
Residents also complain about construction work during nighttime, causing sleep disruption. Rajkumar Dugar, founder of C4C, cites legal restrictions and emphasizes the need for authorities to enforce noise regulations for residential tranquillity.
