Bengaluru Metro to launch trials on two new lines

01 Jul 2023

Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) is taking steps to enhance the travel experience of passengers by initiating trials on two new metro lines next month. BMRCL has confirmed that the Byappanahalli-KR Pura line spanning 2.1 km and the Kengeri-Challaghatta line spanning 2 km will both be operational by the end of August 2023, thereby expanding the travel options for commuters.

Anjum Parwez, the Managing Director of BMRCL, informed the media that the trial runs on both sections will commence simultaneously on August 22, 2023. According to a report, the authorities have devised a roadmap to ensure the full operation of the entire East-West corridor (Purple Line) by the specified deadline.

To ensure a smooth trial run, a test run is scheduled for August 15, during which the dimensions of the track's centre and nearest structure will be checked. Parwez mentioned that a team will transport the metro frame on a trolley to assess any potential structural issues that may arise during the trial run.

Parwez further confirmed that starting from August 22, a single six-coach train will undergo a trial run on both the Kengeri-Challanghata and Byappanahalli-KR Pura metro sections. Additionally, BMRCL is preparing the necessary documentation for inspection by the Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) for both sections.

Currently, the operational stretch of the Purple Line covers 39.4 km, connecting Whitefield (Kadugodi) to the KR Pura section and Byappanahalli to Kengeri. The missing section between KR Pura and Byappanahalli has caused inconvenience for daily commuters traveling to locations like Mahadevapura, ITPB, and Kadugodi. Once the new section becomes operational, it will offer additional travel options and easier access for commuters.
