Bengaluru Metro's green line disruption sparks commuter chaos

01 Oct 2023

On October 3, commuters using Bengaluru Metro's Green Line between Yeswantpur and Mantri Square Sampige Road stations faced significant inconvenience as services were suspended. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) announced the disruption at 5:28 am on October 3, citing a technical issue at Rajajinagar Metro Station via their official communication channel X (formerly Twitter).

BMRCL's Chief Public Relations Officer, BL Yashwanth Chavan, informed that an emergency recovery road-rail vehicle malfunctioned between Rajajinagar and Mahakavi Kuvempu Road Metro stations, disrupting train services. These specialised vehicles are essential for recovering damaged trains and conducting maintenance work.

Efforts were underway to remove the vehicle and restore train services. During this period, the BMRCL implemented single-line operations with reduced frequency in the affected section. Fortunately, operations on other parts of the Green Line and the entire Purple Line (Byappanahalli-Kengeri and Whitefield-KR Pura) remained normal.

The suspension of services caused significant challenges for passengers, especially those returning after an extended weekend, including Eid e Milad on September 28, Karnataka bandh on September 29, followed by Saturday and Sunday, and Gandhi Jayanti on October 2. Yeswantpur railway station and other locations experienced heavy crowding due to the disruption of Green Line services.
