01 Dec 2022

The proposed 350 km-long Hyderabad Regional Ring Road (HRRR) project would be undertaken by the Centre as phase 1 of the Bharatmala Pariyojana along the NH-161 Sangareddy-Narsapur-Tupran-Gajwel-Yadagirigutta-Choutuppal section.

According to an announcement made by the Kishan Reddy, Union Minister of Tourism and Culture, the Centre is investing more than Rs 1 lakh crore in ongoing and future national highway projects in Telangana, including Rs 200 billion in the Hyderabad Regional Ring Road project.

Since the BJP-led government at the centre assumed power in 2014, the state's highway building has surpassed the amount built by previous federal governments between 1947 and 2014.

Between 1947 and 2014, the total length of national highways in state was 2,500 km. Between 2014 and 2022, another 2,500 km were built, increasing the length of national highways

In addition, Reddy noted that, prior to the pandemic-related delays, highway construction peaked in 2018–19 at 364.71 km per year, up from a top of around 139.33 km per year in 2014–15.
