BMC Mumbai Fire Brigade observes Fire Service Week

Mumbai metropolis has as many tall buildings as equivalent to the number of narrow lanes. Therefore, the Mumbai Fire Brigade is always prepared to meet the challenges of fire safety and evacuation. Today, the Annual Fire Drill Competition took place, and it was remarkable to witness the coordination, strength, and team effort of the fire officers and jawans. Additional Municipal Commissioner (Eastern Suburbs) Dr. Amit Saini, expressed the importance of maintaining this coordination during an actual incident.

The BMC has also acknowledged the Mumbai Fire Brigade's extensive work in introducing new technologies for fire prevention and protection, such as Quick-response vehicles, IoT-based systems, and fire evacuation lifts. The provision of Rs 232 crore was made in the budget for the year 2024-25 to modernize the BMC fire brigade.

The final round of the Annual Fire Drill Competition 2024 under Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's Mumbai Fire Brigade was held today (April 16, 2024) at the Mumbai Fire Brigade Headquarters in Byculla, where Additional Municipal Commissioner (Eastern Suburbs) Dr. Amit Saini was speaking as the Chief Guest. The Chief Fire Officer, R N Ambulgekar encouraged all fire officials.

Deputy Commissioner (Finance) Shri. Prashant Gaikwad, Chief Fire Officer Mr. Ravindra Ambulgekar, Chief Fire Officer of Mumbai Port Trust Indrajit Chadha along with fire brigade officials and other dignitaries were present on the dais.

During his speech, Additional Municipal Commissioner Shri. Saini highlighted the importance of unity and team effort during accidents like in the army. He explained how in a metropolis like Mumbai, every moment counts during an incident, and better coordination between man and machine leads to a successful campaign. Shri Saini also mentioned that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation would continue to support the Mumbai Fire Brigade.

Deputy Commissioner Shri. Gaikwad praised the Mumbai Fire Brigade for their commendable preparedness and acknowledged that the municipal administration is continuously working to solve the fire brigade's problems.

Dr. Amit Saini, also honored several firefighters, including President's Meritorious Fire Service awardee Deputy Chief Fire Officer Shri. Harishchandra Shetty, Deputy Chief Fire Officer Shri. Anil Parab, Divisional Fire Officer Shri. Devendra Patil, Second Officer Shri. Rajaram Kudale, Chief Firefighter Shri. Kishore Mhatre, and Chief Firefighter Shri. Muralidhar Andhale. Additionally, Mr. Avinash Shirke the best trainer from Wadala Training Center, was also honored. Chief Firefighter Shri. Vinayak Deshmukh's book 'Shouryam' was also published during the event.
