BSPGCL issues tender for 254 MW battery energy storage system

01 Dec 2023

In a significant move to enhance the use of renewable energy in Bihar, the Bihar State Power Generation Company (BSPGCL) has issued a tender for the establishment of a 185 MW (AC) solar PV power plant accompanied by a 254 MW battery energy storage system in Kajra, Lakhisarai district.

Valued at an estimated Rs 2,26,000 for the Earnest Money Deposit (EMD), the project underscores the state's dedication to sustainable development and addresses the growing demand for clean energy.

The tender notice calls upon consultancy firms to provide Owners Engineer (OE) services essential for the design, engineering, supply, construction, erection, testing, and commissioning of this substantial renewable energy initiative.

The tender process schedule has been outlined, commencing with the availability of the tender document for purchase from January 1, 2024. A pre-bid meeting is scheduled for January 8, 2024, in an online format. The deadline for online submission of the EMD and original bids is set for January 22, 2024, with the technical bids scheduled to be opened on the same day.

The financial component of the bids will be communicated to eligible bidders through email, reflecting a transparent and digitally progressive approach to the bidding process. The entire tender procedure will be conducted through e-tendering, accessible for download on the eproc2.bihar.gov.in portal. This emphasises the state's commitment to digitisation and efficiency, requiring online payments and electronic document submissions.

Bihar's strategic move towards the widespread integration of solar power with energy storage signifies a significant advancement in the state's energy security and sustainability objectives. The inclusion of battery storage is particularly noteworthy, as it will effectively manage the intermittent nature of renewable energy sources, ensuring a more stable and reliable power supply.

This initiative aligns with India's National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC), wherein the National Solar Mission plays a crucial role in promoting sustainable energy and reducing the country's carbon footprint.

With this project, Bihar is poised to make substantial progress in its renewable energy capacity, marking a crucial milestone in India's journey toward a more environmentally friendly future.
