The Calcutta High Court announced that 14 illegal buildings situated at Canal East Road in Kolkata Municipal Corporation?s Ward 29 must be demolished within the next seven weeks. This decision came after three engineers submitted a report indicating that the building plans of these 14 constructions had not been sanctioned.

According to a source from the KMC buildings department, among the 14 buildings, two were permanent concrete structures while the remaining were huts. During a hearing of a petition, Justice Amrita Sinha instructed the civic body to conduct a spot inspection. Previously, the civic body had accused the police of not cooperating in pulling down illegal buildings in the Narkeldanga police station area. In response to this accusation, Justice Sinha had ordered the officer-in-charge of the police station to appear in court.
