Chief Secretary inspects Agra Metro Rail Project, commends Progress

Chief Secretary Durga Shankar Mishra paid a visit to the Agra Metro Rail Project, where he thoroughly inspected the ongoing metro construction in the city. During his visit, Mishra specifically went to the Taj East Gate station and examined the finishing touches, design, and track work on the concourse and platform areas. He commended the team of officials from the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) for their timely and precise completion of the project.

Accompanying Mishra were MD UPMRC Sushil Kumar, Director of Rolling Stock Atul Garg, and Project Director Agra, Arvind Rai. They provided guidance and support to the team of engineers throughout the visit.

Mishra expressed his satisfaction, stating, "Agra, with its bustling tourist activity both from domestic and international visitors, is on the verge of acquiring a world-class metro rail system. The UPMRC team is diligently working towards its completion." He highlighted that the Agra Metro Rail Project aligns with the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' mission of the Government of India, and the metro trains have been manufactured in Savli, Gujarat, as part of the Make in India initiative.

He further praised the aesthetic design of the metro stations in Agra and commended the impressive artwork displayed during the G20 delegation visit to the city.

MD UPMRC, Sushil Kumar, said, "Chief Secretary Mishra inspected the Agra Metro Rail Project and expressed his satisfaction with the progress. Three elevated stations on the first corridor are already completed, with finishing work almost finished, including electrical work."

Kumar also mentioned, "Civil work for the underground stations is completed, and despite the usual four-year timeline for constructing an underground metro station, the construction of three underground stations in Agra, which began in March 2022, is targeted to be completed by February 2024."

Regarding the trials, Kumar added, "Low-speed trials within the depot are progressing successfully, and soon we will commence high-speed train trials on the mainline viaduct."
