CPWD to issue bids for building new PMO in Central Vista

01 Jan 2022

The Central Public Works Department (CPWD) will float tenders for constructing the new Prime Minister's Office (PMO) as a part of enclave integration of several offices at an estimated cost of around Rs 1,200 crore.

It will be built using red and yellow Dholpur sandstone. The new PMO is proposed to be developed on the land where defence officers were located near South Block, New Delhi. The defence office has shifted to two new office complexes on Africa Avenue and Kasturba Gandhi Marg.

The PMO will be a part of a high-security Executive Enclave, which will have offices of cabinet secretariat, National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS) and office spaces attached to the Prime Minister's residence.

India House, a structure with facilities for hosting state guests, will also be a part of the Executive Enclave. The spokesperson of HCP Design Planning and Management Private Limited told the media that it won the bid to design the Central Vista Redevelopment Project.

According to the sources, the PM's residence will also be designed. The CPWD, the construction wing of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), will invite bids for the Executive Enclave soon. However, the housing ministry is piloting the Central Vista project.

According to an official, the first stage of the pre-qualification is ongoing, and the bids will be a two-staged process due to security purposes. He added that the technical bidding was issued during November. The qualified bidders can participate in the financial bidding round.

After awarding the tender, the deadline to complete the project is two years after starting the work.

The existing PMO in South Block will later be converted into a museum.
