During a session, State Minister for Finance and Human Resources Management, Thangam Thennarasu, urged the State BJP unit to seek approval from the Modi-led Union government for metro rail projects, along with its anticipated contribution.

In response to BJP MLA Vanathi Srinivasan?s remarks in the House, Minister Thangam Thennarasu questioned why the Union government, which had greenlit the Kochi Metro Rail Projects, hadn't extended the same approval to those in Chennai.

He pressed Vanathi, the BJP legislator, to leverage her influence at the Centre to secure approval, particularly for the Coimbatore project.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the Narendra Modi-led Union government, Minister Thangam Thennarasu highlighted that the State government was solely financing the Chennai Metro Rail Phase II project, costing an estimated Rs 69,000 crore. He queried why the Centre hadn't contributed any funds thus far.

In response, Coimbatore (South) MLA Vanathi stated that the state BJP unit is prepared to engage in discussions with the Centre once the state government shares detailed plans for the Chennai, Madurai, and Coimbatore Metro Rail schemes.

Vanathi emphasised the TN BJP's commitment to Tamil Nadu's development, urging all parties to prioritize state progress over political agendas during the budget debate in the House.
