To accommodate more travellers, the domestic terminal at Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) airport is now being expanded.

According to insiders with knowledge of the project, the domestic terminal's first floor is being renovated and will have a floor area that has been increased by around 150%.

"On the first floor of the security hold area, the space behind the retail counters is vacant. According to the source, we intend to increase the number of passenger seats using this area.

According to sources, the region will also receive new food and beverage establishments and retail spaces to give customers more choices.

"The first floor's service spaces will also be updated and expanded. This even includes a baby care station and a newly designed smoking area in the terminal, the person continued.

Additionally, there will be more e-gates for passengers to use to scan their boarding cards to access the security hold area. To shorten the turnaround time for passengers entering from the security check to the security hold area, three additional e-gates will be added to the current four, according to the source.

Additionally, SVPI Airport is offering a summer funfair with events to keep visitors entertained. At the airport, savings are available on both retail and food and beverage. As the international airport is undergoing upgrades, Air India has moved its domestic operations from Terminal 2 to Terminal 1, the domestic terminal.

The building's overall floor size as well as the terminal area will be increased, along with the addition of three more aerobridges. An integrated terminal will be created, according to an airport source.
