Under the Greenfield Airports Policy, 2008, the Government of India has so far accorded 'in-principle' approval for installing 21 Greenfield Airports across the nation. 21 Greenfield Airports across the nation namely Kushinagar and Noida (Jewar) in Uttar Pradesh, Mopa in Goa, Shirdi, Sindhudurg and Navi Mumbai in Maharashtra, Dholera and Hirasar in Gujarat, Hassan, Bijapur, Kalaburagi and Shimoga in Karnataka, Datia (Gwalior) in Madhya Pradesh, Karaikal in Puducherry, Dagadarthi, Bhogapuram and Oravakal in Andhra Pradesh, Durgapur in West Bengal, Pakyong in Sikkim, Kannur in Kerala and Hollongi (Itanagar) in Arunachal Pradesh.
The government of India has prepared a Greenfield Airports Policy, 2008, which renders guidelines, procedures and conditions for the installation of new Greenfield Airports in the country. The airports accorded permission at Mopa, Navi Mumbai, Shirdi, Noida (Jewar), Dholera, Hirasar, Bhogapuram, Kannur and Kushinagar are international airports and the remaining are domestic airports. Out of these, eight airports i.e., Shirdi, Durgapur, Pakyong, Sindhudurg, Kalaburagi, Kannur, Oravakal and Kushinagar, have been operationalised. The government of India awarded 'in principle' permission to the Government of Uttar Pradesh on 08.05.2018 for installing a new greenfield international airport at Jewar, Noida. Government of Uttar Pradesh selected Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) as the executing agency for the project under Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode. Government of Uttar Pradesh has granted the project to M/s Zurich Airport International AG for the development of the airport.Government of Uttar Pradesh has notified that the task of procurement of 1334 hectares of land for Phase-I of the project has been achieved and the control of the land has been received. According to the Master Plan presented by Yamuna International Airport Pvt Ltd (YIAPL), the forecast for initial year traffic is four million passengers per annum for the airport against the initial capacity of 12 million passengers per annum for Phase I. The calculated project cost for Phase I is Rs. 8914 crore comprising the land purchase cost. According to the Concession Agreement, the scheduled completion date of the airport is 29th September 2024.
