Jaipur Development Authority Tightens Building Plan Approval Process

01 Mar 2024

To curb unauthorized construction on the narrow roads of Jaipur, the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) has implemented significant changes in the approval process for building plans. Henceforth, zonal offices of the JDA will no longer have the authority to grant permissions for constructing buildings.

According to a JDA official, building plans must now be approved exclusively at the building map committee level. This decision comes in response to numerous complaints regarding buildings erected in violation of civic body by-laws, particularly in terms of height and location.

"We are inundated with complaints alleging that buildings have been constructed on narrow city roads and lanes, exceeding the permissible height limits," stated the JDA official. "Upon investigation, it was discovered that certain zonal offices had granted permissions based on inaccuracies in the submitted plans. The stated breadth of the roads often exceeded the actual dimensions, leading to unauthorized constructions."

These changes aim to strengthen oversight and ensure compliance with building regulations, ultimately fostering safer and more orderly urban development in Jaipur. The JDA's proactive measures underscore its commitment to maintaining the integrity of the city's infrastructure and preserving its architectural heritage.
