Jumbo UP budget encloses much for infra

The Uttar Pradesh state government has presented a Rs 5.50 lakh crore Budget for the financial year (FY) 2021-22.

This year's budget, which is 7.3% bigger than the last one, has allocated Rs 27,598 crore for new schemes—up from Rs 10,967 crore in 2020—with infrastructure development bagging a major share.

Among the major projects, the government has made a provision of Rs 12,242 crore for medical and health infrastructure. For the construction of medical colleges in 39 districts and creating diagnostic infrastructure for primary healthcare facilities, Rs 5,085 crore have been provided.

The fiscal deficit estimated in the current budget stands at Rs 90,729 crore, which is 4.17% of the estimated Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) as compared to the estimated fiscal deficit of Rs. 53,195.46 crore in 2020-21 Budget, which was 2.97% of the estimated GSDP.

According to the budget document, the state's debt liability has been estimated to be 28.1% of the GSDP.

Under Mukhya Mantri Kanya Sumangal Yojana, the government allocated Rs 1,200 crore to give tablets to girl students
Education (University in every division; Rs 200 crore for model colleges in 26 districts)
Rs 100 crore for metro rail projects in Varanasi and Gorakhpur
Rs 750 crore for Gorakhpur Expressway, Rs 1,107 crore for Purvanchal Expressway, Rs 1,492 crore for Bundelkhand Expressway
Rs 700 crore allocated for irrigation
