In Kerala, the Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) plans a Phase II line from the city centre to the Kakkanad region and expedites the alternative road construction work to prepare for traffic regulations.

District Collector NSK Umesh recently chaired a meeting where it was decided to implement necessary measures to facilitate construction activities involving collaboration among various departments and organisations. Following this decision, Metro authorities have commenced a coordinated effort to manage traffic and redirect it to alternative routes. KMRL authorities will disclose further details regarding these measures in the forthcoming days. Road widening initiatives are underway on the existing route to enhance traffic flow. Non-bus vehicles, ambulances, autorickshaws, and two-wheelers are expected to be re-routed through alternative paths.

Per the collector's instructions, officials will conduct site visits to Metro construction areas to evaluate the arrangements. Out of the proposed 11 stations, land acquisition for seven stations has been completed.

With construction set to commence in the upcoming weeks, KMRL has increased the frequency of Water Metro services between Vyttila and Kakkanad, providing alternative transportation options for residents commuting to the Kakkanad region.

KMRL aims to finalise the construction of the Phase II Metro line by January of the following year.
