Kochi Metro gets nod for Kakkanad land

01 Aug 2023

The Women and Child Development (WCD) department announced that they had granted an order, offering preliminary approval for the transfer of the land belonging to the Government Children’s Home in Kakkanad. This land would be used for the construction of Kochi Metro’s Phase-II line.

It was mentioned that the in-principle approval was being given under the condition that the Kochi Metro Rail (KMRL) would acquire a portion of the land owned by the Children’s Home, measuring 13.92 cents. Additionally, KMRL had given their assurance to maintain the entrance gate of the Children’s Home and to build a solid wall to separate the planned Metro station from the Children’s Home area.

The matter regarding the acquisition of the land had been discussed during a meeting overseen by the Principal Secretary of the Revenue Department. The Children’s Home had put forth their demand that certain preliminary tasks, including the construction of a boundary wall, relocation of existing underground water tanks, and the shifting of security cabin and gates, should be completed before the commencement of the Metro construction activities.
