New 9km Road Boosts Healthcare Access

01 Sep 2023

"The state government intends to develop a 9km long road to enhance connectivity between the AIIMS National Cancer Institute in Bhadsa, Jhajjar, and the Dwarka Expressway. The planned road is slated to have six lanes and will necessitate the acquisition of approximately 102.3 acres of land in six villages spanning Gurgaon and Jhajjar by the public works department (PWD). This road will lead to Sector 102, connecting with the expressway.

According to PWD officials, about 76% of the farmers have provided their consent for land acquisition in exchange for compensation. The government is in the process of establishing a fixed rate per acre for land acquisition through detailed discussions and consultations with the farmers. Moreover, the road will establish connectivity with Delhi and the IGI airport via the Dwarka Expressway.

The land to be acquired is distributed as follows: Kherki Majra (17.5 acres), Dhankot (13.4 acres), Budhera (24 acres), Makrola (35.6 acres), Iqbalpur (6.6 acres), and Bhadsa (5 acres). The project is estimated to cost approximately Rs 272.1 crore, with Rs 206.8 crore allocated for land acquisition and Rs 65.3 crore for road construction.

A senior PWD official explained, "Land parcels with a width of around 45 meters will be acquired from Bhadsa to Makdola, while from Makdola to Kherki Majra, plots approximately 60 meters wide will be acquired for the proposed road. The road will connect AIIMS Jhajjar to Dwarka Expressway at Sector 102, and there are plans for constructing a flyover at this juncture to link both roads."

Currently, individuals traveling from the city to AIIMS Jhajjar must take Badli Road from Basai, which is narrow and prone to congestion due to heavy traffic. AIIMS Jhajjar witnesses around 500 patients visiting its OPDs daily, with appointment wait times ranging from 20 to 25 days. The hospital's bed capacity, currently at 250, is expected to increase to 700 by the next year.

In December 2015, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar announced the construction of a four-lane road to connect Jhajjar's Badli with IGI airport. Administrative approval for the road's construction was granted by the state government in May 2017, and the proposed AIIMS-Dwarka Expressway link is part of the Chief Minister's initial announcement.

The road is expected to begin at AIIMS in Bhadsa and culminate at Sector 102, passing through Iqbalpur, Makrola, Budhera, Dhankot, and Kherki Majra. To realize this project, the state government plans to acquire approximately 98.6 acres of private land and 3.7 acres of panchayat land. Currently, consent has been obtained from landowners for the acquisition of 78.2 acres, which accounts for approximately 76.4% of the total required land. An official stated, "The process of obtaining consent from the remaining landowners is ongoing."
