NHPC Donates Rs 30 Mn to Sikkim Flood Victims

NHPC, in support of the Sikkim state government's relief efforts for victims of the Lhonak Lake outburst, has contributed Rs 30 million to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund in Sikkim. The natural calamity occurred on October 3rd, leading to extensive damage in the Teesta River Valley of Sikkim.

The financial aid was presented to Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang by NHPC officials, including L.K. Tripathi, Executive Director (Region-Siliguri); C.R. Das of Teesta-V Power Station; and Lhendhup Lepcha of Teesta-IV Hydro Project, along with senior officials of Teesta-VI HE Project in Gangtok.

The flash flood, triggered by the Lhonak Lake outburst in North Sikkim, led to significant damage to bridges, portions of NH10, small towns, and infrastructure in the Teesta River Valley of Sikkim. NHPC has been actively involved in providing relief measures to the victims, including organising langars, distributing rations, and coordinating with the state administration. The langar facilities set up by NHPC at various locations will continue until the situation returns to normal.
