NMRC approves plan to extend Aqua Line

01 Feb 2024

The Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) approved the revised Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the extension of the Aqua Line corridor. The extension will have 11 stations starting from the existing one at Sector 51 (Noida) to Knowledge Park V (Greater Noida).

The DPR has been approved with slight changes in its alignment to ensure seamless connectivity. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) was entrusted with preparing the modified report. The project is expected to provide relief to residents of Greater Noida West, who have been demanding public transport facilities for a long time.

?This project will provide ease of access to commuters in Noida, Greater Noida West and Greater Noida via Vikas Marg and Noida-Greater Noida Link Road; this will also help decongest heavy traffic along these roads,? said NMRC Managing Director Lokesh M.

He further said that the Noida Sector 61 station will serve as an interchange between the Aqua Line and DMRC?s Blue Line. He added that the DPR will be sent for approval by the Uttar Pradesh Government and the Centre. As per the report, the total completion cost of the project is estimated to be Rs 2,991.60 crore, covering a length of 17.43 km.

In the earlier DPR, a foot overbridge was planned to connect Sector 51 (Aqua Line) and Sector 52 (Blue Line) stations. However, the NMRC sought changes, stating that the bridge would not resolve commuters? problem permanently owing to the 430-metre distance between the two stations. It said that even if there is a provision for travellators, it will be hard to encourage commuters to use the bridge. The proposed stations are: Noida Sector 61; Noida Sector 70, Noida Sector 122, Noida Sector 123, Greater Noida Sector 4, EcoTech 12, Greater Noida Sector 2, Greater Noida Sector 3, Greater Noida Sector 10, Greater Noida Sector 12 and Greater Noida Knowledge Park V.
