Over one crore unorganised workers have registered on the e-Shram portal with maximum enrollments from states like Bihar and Odisha and the highest enrollments, from agriculture and construction sector workers.

The Ministry of Labour told the media that in 24 days, government data revealed that 10.3 million unorganised workers have registered on the portal. Of these nearly 43% of the beneficiaries are female, and 57% are male.

The ministry said more than one crore unorganised workers registered on the e-Shram portal, which is India's first national database on unorganised workers.

The drive to promote the registration of migrant workers at the e-Shram portal has gained huge attention since its launch on 26th August 2021, it said.

This is the first-ever intensive step towards creating a comprehensive database of unorganised workers from different sectors.

Through registration at the e-Shram portal, these migrant workers also can now take the benefits of different social security and employment-based schemes.

There are an expected 38 crore unorganised workers (UW) in the country, which would be targeted to register on this portal, as per the Economic Survey 2019-20.

Bhupender Yadav also mentioned that this data can be used by the state or Union Territories governments for the delivery of different social security schemes to unorganised workers as per eligibility.

As many as 1,03,12,095 workers have registered in the portal till now, the ministry said.

This registration would aid delivery and accessibility to significant welfare programmes and several entitlements meant for the workers in the unorganised sector and employment.

The largest number of workers registered on the portal are from agriculture and construction, given the sheer volume of these two sectors in employment generation in India, it further added.
