PM GatiShakti initiative transforms Indian infra in just 2 years

01 Nov 2023

Two years after its introduction, India has implemented an extensive infrastructure development plan based on the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan (NMP). This initiative encompasses the construction of approximately 8,890 kilometers of roads, 27,000 kilometers of railway tracks, and 920 kilometers of petroleum and natural gas pipelines.

One of the significant achievements of the PM GatiShakti initiative is the substantial reduction in the time required by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to prepare detailed project reports (DPR). Previously taking six months, the DPR preparation time has been slashed to just 15 days.

During this two-year period, the PM GatiShakti initiative has successfully onboarded central ministries, all states, and Union Territories (UTs). Its implementation across various infrastructure ministries and several states has highlighted the substantial advantages delivered by the PM GatiShakti principles.

Additionally, the Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry has introduced the Electronic Detailed Report Survey (e-DRS) tool, enabling the digital generation of DRS reports within 24 hours. This streamlined digital process starkly contrasts with the manual approach, which previously took six to nine months, demonstrating the significant efficiency brought about by the NMP integration.
