Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Gujarat's inaugural heritage train service, linking Vadodara to Ahmedabad, with a special focus on transporting tourists to the Statue of Unity, a tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
This unique three-coach heritage train is propelled by an electric engine ingeniously crafted to resemble a steam locomotive, complete with smoke emulators and a sound system mimicking the traditional steam engine. Modi, enthused by the amalgamation of historical charm and contemporary amenities, flagged off the train during the Ekta Divas celebrations in Ekta Nagar, also known as Kevadiya, situated in the Narmada district.
The train's coaches are equipped with 48 seats each, offering travelers a comfortable journey. Additionally, the train features a 28-seater air-conditioned restaurant dining car adorned with teak wood dining tables and plush two-seater sofas, where passengers can relish tea and snacks.
The train's schedule ensures a seamless experience for tourists. It departs from Ahmedabad at 6:10 am and arrives at Ekta Nagar, the railway station near Kevadia, the site of the Statue of Unity within the Sardar Sarovar dam reservoir, at 9:50 am. On the return journey, the train leaves Ekta Nagar at 8:23 pm and reaches Ahmedabad shortly after midnight. Notably, the 182-km journey between Ekta Nagar and Ahmedabad is non-stop, enhancing the efficiency and convenience of travel. The one-way fare for this remarkable journey is set at Rs 885, making it accessible to a wide range of travellers.
