PM Modi to inaugurate Bengaluru airport's second terminal

01 Nov 2022

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Bengaluru to kick off a number of new initiatives, including the opening of a second terminal at the city's Kempegowda International Airport.

PM Modi will also unveil a 108-foot bronze statue of Bengaluru's founder, Nadaprabhu Kempegowda, on the airport grounds, as well as the first Vande Bharat Express to serve the Chennai-Bengaluru-Mysuru route.

The new terminal will cost the state Rs 50 billion and will be a tribute to one of Bengaluru's older titles - Garden City - with the passenger experience being a "walk in the garden."

The second terminal, which is expected to open in December, will have double check-in and immigration counters as well as double passenger handling capacity, relieving congestion in the first.

The terminal will be able to handle between 5 and 6 million passengers per year.
