Prime Minister Narendra Modi had inaugurated and laid foundation stones for 15 airport projects, which included a new terminal building at Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Airport in Gwalior. It was stated that the grand terminal building, covering an area of 20,000 square metres, had a peak hour capacity to handle around 1400 passengers, which was three times more than the capacity of the old airport. It was further mentioned that the new terminal had been constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 4.98 billion by the Airports Authority of India.
The Minister of Civil Aviation of India was quoted as saying that the new terminal embodied a fusion of history, culture, and modernity. Additionally, it was noted that while the old Enclave had occupied only 29 acres, the new Enclave spanned 143 acres, and four passenger boarding bridges had also been built for the convenience of boarding passengers. The report also detailed that a total of 16 check-in counters, three conveyor belts, and a runway measuring 2985m x 45m had been constructed at the new terminal building.
