SC upholds GMR Infra winning bid for Nagpur airport

01 May 2022

SC (Supreme Court) has dismissed appeals against the Bombay high court which had previously granted the GMR Group concession rights of Nagpur airport. The Nagpur bench had directed the multi-modal international cargo hub and airport at Nagpur, or Mihan, last year to execute the concession agreement with GMR Airports for the up-gradation and operation of the city’s Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport.

Mahan India had cancelled the award to GMR Group in 2020 as the Maharashtra government was not satisfied with the revenue share quoted by GMR in the tender. Mihan had then decided to issue a fresh tender resulting in a JV between Maharashtra Airport Development Company and the Airports Authority of India.

With SC having dismissed all appeals against the HC verdict, GMR Infra will be augmenting the capacity and modernisation of Nagpur Airport.
