Singapore Airlines purchases eco-friendly jet fuel from Neste

Singapore Airlines announced that it would purchase 1,000 tonne of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from Neste. This marked the first procurement of the low-carbon jet fuel from the Finnish firm's refinery in the city-state.

As per a joint statement issued by the three companies, the leading Asian carrier had entered into an agreement with Neste to procure the SAF. The fuel would be blended with conventional fuel for utilization by the airline and its budget subsidiary, Scoot.

The completion of the Neste refinery's expansion at Changi last year increased its production capacity to a million tonnes of sustainable aviation fuel annually, rendering it the world's largest facility of its kind.

According to the statement, Neste would commence delivering SAF to Changi Airport's fuel hydrant system in the second quarter, with subsequent deliveries scheduled for the fourth quarter.

The statement highlighted that SAFs are manufactured from 100 percent renewable waste and residue raw materials, resulting in a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80 percent over the fuel's lifecycle.

Alexander Kueper, Neste's vice president for renewable aviation, remarked, "This provision of locally produced SAF to Changi Airport signifies a milestone in our efforts to support the aviation industry and regional governments in achieving their emissions reduction objectives."
