SJVN commences work of second unit of Buxar Thermal Power Plant

Shri N L Sharma, CMD SJVN, virtually inaugurated the works of the second unit of the 1,320 MW Buxar Thermal Power Plant.

The foundation stone of the 1320 MW Buxar Thermal Power Plant was laid by the Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi on 9th March 2019. Shri Sharma notified that the progress of the Project is being continuously observed by the Union Minister for Power & NRE, Sh. R. K Singh. He urged all stakeholders to enthusiastically strive hard to launch the project before the scheduled time.

The project comprises two units and that over 50 % of works associated with the First unit have already been developed. The 1320 MW Buxar Thermal Power Plant with Ultra Super Critical Technology is being built by SJVN Thermal Pvt. Ltd (a wholly-owned subsidiary of SJVN Limited). The plant includes an investment of about Rs 11,000 crore. On launching, the plant will produce 9828 million units of electricity. He indicated to add towards the goal of “24X7 Power for All” set by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India.

He said that every individual connected with the works of the plant has to concertedly work towards the launching of the first unit of the plant by June 2023 and the second unit by January 2024.

SJVN’s current established capacity is 2016.51 MW and has a portfolio of over 11000 MW and plans to be producing 5000 MW by 2023, 12000 MW by 2030 and 25000 MW by 2040. SJVN has a presence in several sectors of energy production which involves Hydro, Wind, Solar and Thermal. The firm additionally has a presence in the field of Energy Transmission.
