Tamil Nadu property registration process to go online

01 Oct 2021

The property registration department in Tamil Nadu is in talks with the top digital service provider to make the process of registration online till the requirement of the official seal.

Buyers will have to seek the appointment online, after which consultancy, guidance and procedures like booking the tokens and uploading the documents will be done.

Executors can also avail themselves of the legal service providers and document writers. But the role of the sub-registrars will be confined to verify the documents without physical interaction with the buyer. On the registration day, the buyer, seller and witnesses can participate in the sale deed execution.

According to the official sources, the online system will remove the sub-registrar officers, impersonation and corruption. In 2018, property registrations were pushed to cyberspace, but the touts and perennial grouse of the public could not be completely removed from the registration process. Services in passport Seva Kendra focuses on preventing the touts from entering into registration centres and limiting the interaction with the officials.

Call centres services will be activated on the phones to assist the public. It would also help non-resident Indians (NRIs) to keep an eye on their property transactions from a distance after shifting Power of Attorney for the purpose.

According to an official, the online services would be offered on par with corporate offices, and a couple of discussions have been completed with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) for the purpose. The officials can interact with the buyer only on the final registration stage to approve sale deeds and other registrations.
