Velu asks Nitin Gadkari to start NHAI projects in Tennessee

01 Jan 2023

EV Velu, Tamil Nadu’s highways minister, urged Nitin Gadkari, the union minister for roads and highways, to start building the elevated corridors that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has proposed for the Tambaram-Chengalpattu NH, Sriperumbudur-Poonamallee, and eight-laning Chengalpattu-Tindivanam sections in 2023.

Velu stressed that the NHAI-managed toll plazas in Tamil Nadu for which the contract time had finished should be shut down as soon as possible in a document he sent to Gadkari in New Delhi. According to a statement, The Minister also briefed the union minister on the inconvenience encountered by the residents as a result of the toll plazas operating at Kappalur in the Madurai and Krishnagiri districts. Velu suggested the NH should be enlarged into four lanes along with eight bypasses because the Salem-Ulundurpet portion alternates between two and four lanes, regularly resulting in catastrophic accidents.
