West Bengal to open Rs 6 billion Tata Metaliks expansion plant

01 Sep 2022

Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, is set to inaugurate a Rs 6 billion expansion plant of Tata Metaliks, which would be a significant boost to Bengal's industrialisation. Tata Metaliks already has a plant in Kharagpur that manufactures pig iron and ductile iron pipes. The plant's annual hot-metal production capacity is reported to be 500,000 tonnes. The new plant would operate from the existing facilities. Banerjee would be inaugurating a Tata plant for the first time. One of the main issues that propelled her to government was a sustained agitation against the Left Front government's forcible land acquisition in favour of a Tata Motors plant in Singur, which forced the group to relocate. Banerjee will kick off the Tata Metaliks project virtually from the nearby Vidyasagar Industrial Park.
