India’s cement capacity expected to cross 0.5 bn tonne this year

The total installed cement capacity in India is expected to cross half a bn tonne this year, even amid weakened demand conditions. Several cement manufacturers are expected to soon add 23 mtpa of production capacity. As reported, these include UltraTech (4 mtpa), JK Cement (4.2 mtpa), Dalmia Bharat (3.5 mtpa), Ramco Cement (2.1 mtpa), Sanghi Industries (2 mtpa), Star Cement (2 mtpa), with Birla Corporation, Wonder Cement and Ambuja Cement adding the rest of the 5.2 mtpa capacity. India’s total installed capacity currently stands at 485 mtpa. With new additions, this will rise to 508 mtpa in 2020.
