KEC-Siemens JV lower bidder for Kolkata Metro Lines 3, 4

The KEC International-Siemens consortium emerged lower among the two bidders for two contracts for the supply and commissioning of 33 kv power distributions and 750 V DC third rail traction systems for Kolkata Metro’s Line 3 and Line 6.
Rail Vikas Nigam (RVNL) had opened financial bids for both contracts for which tenders were invited in November last year, and technical bids were revealed in February 2021 in which Larsen and Toubro (L&T) and KEC-Siemens JV placed bid for both contracts.
This work has been divided into two packages: 

3 and 4. Package 3 includes Line 3 electrification from Joka to the Majerhat section, while Package  4 includes Line 6 from Hemendra Mukherjee to the Bidhannagar section.
For Package 3, the KEC-Siemens JV had placed a bid value of `2.41 billion, while L&T had quoted a bid price of `3.03 billion. The estimated cost of the project is Rs.2.5825 billion and is slated to be completed within 24 months from start of construction. Scope of work for Package 3 includes engineering, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of 33 kv power distribution, traction substation, auxiliary substations and 750 V DC third rail traction system for Joka-Majerhat Corridor (Mominpur) and Airport-New Garia Corridor  to Bidhannagar.

For Package 4, the KEC-Siemens JV had placed a bid value of Rs.2.95 billion, while L&T placed a bid value of Rs.3.03 billion. The estimated cost of the project is Rs.3.1465 billion and is to be completed in 30 months. Scope of work for Package 4 includes engineering, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of 33 kv power distribution, traction substation, auxiliary substations and 750 V DC third rail traction system for Airport-New Garia Corridor Bidhannagar-Bimanbandar including New Town Depot.
