Vivek Bharadwaj, Chief Executive Officer of Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) informed reporters that the authority was awaiting the clearance of the state government for acquiring land for the proposed Baruipur satellite township project.
The authority has identified land at Barrackpore and Chnadannagar, Bharadwaj told reporters while addressing a press conference to announce a three-day exhibition on urban development, Bengal Builds.
KMDA, which proposed to set up five satellite townships by 2025, identified land at Baruipur (28 km south of Kolkata), Chandannagar (45 km north of the city) and Barrackpore (26 km north of Kolkata) for three projects.
However, it is not known how much land is required for these projects. Meanwhile, State Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim said he will meet with bankers in London to seek proposed investments for its financial hub located in the eastern fringes of the city.
The minister would be accompanied by representatives of the state urban development department to London on November 15 for an informal meeting with bankers.
To be spread over 25 acres, this hub will be exclusively for foreign banks. The State already has one financial hub at Rajarhat which is for Indian banks and financial institutions.
