Lucknow metro launch delayed again

01 Aug 2017

According to ‘Metro Man’ and civil engineer E Sreedharan, setback in the Lucknow Metro Project’s construction has reportedly been due to unavoidable reasons, which according to him include delay in railway clearances and delivery of coaches.

Construction of the Lucknow Metro was initiated in September 2014 and a trial run was conducted in December 2016. The SP government had assured that its services will begin in March 2016 but the deadline could not be met. Despite the recurring extension of target date, Lucknow Metro remains to hold the title of fastest first section completed of any metro in India.

Metros across the country have been awaiting clearances from government as the Centre is working on a new policy for such projects. Lucknow Metro is expected to be operational by the second week of August once it receives technical clearance.
