UPJN to complete pipeline project soon

01 Mar 2013

UP JalNigam (UPJN) plans to complete soon the laying of water pipelines for some of the projects started under JNNURM in 2009-10.

The projects were delayed because of shortage of funds. Despite the tall claims of UP Jal Nigam that 70 percent of the works of pipeline laying works under different projects have been completed so far, the denizens will have no respite from the traffic woes in near future as the work in many areas has been stopped owing to lack of funds, which will extend the deadline set for the completion of these works.

It is learnt that a fund of Rs 15 crore has been recently released for the pipeline laying from Sigra to Durgakund, which had to be completed by coming March 31. The work was delayed as funds could not be procured timely due to, which the deadline to complete the work was revised as June 15.

The road digging work was also left incomplete at Badi Gaibi area owing to similar reason. Apart from it, the release of a fund of Rs 50 crore is also awaited for this project, due to which the works, which have to be carried out up to Durgakund, may linger, said Singh.

Notably, the storm water drainage project costing Rs 191.62 crore was approved in November 2008 but it could be started in 2010.

The project is expected to be completed by April next. After the completion of the project, the storm water would be disposed at Asi nullah in city area, Narokhar nallah in trans-Varuna area, and in river Ganga and Varuna.
